Search Engine Optimization is a very important addition to all websites of today. If you decide to go without SEO, your website will most certainly never be seen. What SEO does for a web page is that it tells the search engines such as bing, yahoo and google that your specific web page is relevant to a certain topic.
For example, let's say you build a website about tigers. The best thing you can do in a way of SEO is of course to write content that is about this specific race. Add pictures about those races, but also try to get other animal related websites to link to your website from theirs. The more niche oriented websites that are posting links to you, the more important the search engines think your website is.
PageRank: Well, what is PageRank and how important is it to our links? PageRank is a way of giving a certain grade, if you will, of a website and this grade is given to each website by google. It starts on 0 and stops at 10. 0 being the lowest value. A lot of web developers are buying links from people that are using automation tools such as serpscraper and xrumer to automatically build 1000's of profiles on blogs or forums, creating a blog sending a dofollow link to your website. This might sound like a great way when you want to get good ranks, but for real, those links aren't really that good. Let's assume you buy a package of 15000 forum profile links. The links get built for you and you receive a list of all the link profiles. That sounds really great.
The issue here is that altavista and the other search engines might notindex all of these forum links so if you're unlucky you might not even get many links worth your money from all of these thousands of links. Also, the forum or blog owners know about those methods and deletes posts or profiles that look auto generated and those never used, also removing the link you have purchased.
So if you are thinking of buying backlinks in bulk like this, I suggest you actually go out there and search around the forums and blogs, posting real comments and threads.. Those posts are much more certain to be indexed and by that, pointing you a good real sticky backlinks.
Many web developers are too lazy to take the time it takes to write quality essays (like this one) and post it out there on ezine articles, goarticles, hubpages, squidoo. They think that buying 10000 links generated by a spam-bot will get them high SE rankings in a very short time. I'm not saying that it definetly won't work, but I strongly believe in putting in some hard work and building your own backlinks, day after day. This will certainly give you better rankings in the search engines. It takes time, but is definetly woth it.
